Definitions


Chivalry: A system, popular in the medieval period, that governed the lives of knights. It was religious, moral and social in nature.
Construct: An idea considered to be subjective and based on conceptual elements.
Damsel: an unmarried young woman.
Disempowered: When a person, or a group is less powerful. Usually strategically engineered.
Engineered: Designed, or constructed. Not naturally existing.
Gender Scripts: The theory that our idea of gendered roles are, in fact, learned behaviors as opposed to innate actions.

Gender Stereotypes: An oversimplified, and reductive image of a person based upon their gender.

Knight: A male in the Medieval period whom served his lord as a solider.

LGBTQ: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered, and Queer (or questioning).

Medieval Period: 500 AD - 1500 AD (otherwise known as the Middle Ages).
Noblemen: Males belonging to the noble class.
Power Imbalance: Power which is disproportionate between people or groups.
Power Structures: This refers both the organizations and the hierarchy of people in power within the organization.
Sexual Script: A theory that maintains the fact sexual encounters, and behaviours are learned, social behaviours.
Wayside: Edge of the road.
